Natalie Kirchhofer
Cohausz & Florack

Natalie Kirchhofer joined Cohausz & Florack in 2014 and her promotion to partner, effective from 2018, was one of the fastest in the firm’s history. With a background in biochemistry, Kirchhofer is able to provide clients with solid counsel in complex matters relating to molecular biology, genetic engineering, immunology, diagnostics, medical devices, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry, and other life sciences matters. Kirchhofer was lead counsel for one of the opponents of The Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT in the European CRISPR-Cas opposition proceedings, which followed her leading a due diligence team in conducting a high-profile freedom to operate patent analysis in the CRISPR field. She has also recently defended the supplementary protection certificates of two blockbuster drugs against a number of nullity actions brought by generic manufacturers. Kirchhofer is particularly proud that her professional successes have run alongside her rewarding experience of being a mother to two young children, which she believes makes her a solid role model for younger women in IP. She is also involved in a mentoring program for women in IP, and she nurtures young professionals by participating as a mentor, coach, and judge in mock patent trials.
