Allen & Overy IP team joins Kirkland & Ellis

A team of IP attorneys from Allen & Overy has joined Kirkland & Ellis’s London office.

Nicola Dagg, previously the global head of IP at Allen & Overy, has more than 20 years of IP experience. She has handled complex IP disputes and advisory work on a national and international level.

Dagg’s international practice focuses on patent litigation and breach of confidence disputes, and she specialises in dealing with scientific and technologically advanced matters.

She said: “Kirkland’s entrepreneurial culture provides a strong platform for building a business. The firm’s ambition, drive and confidence were very attractive for our team, and we see a huge opportunity to build a top IP litigation practice in London and to serve clients on a global scale.”

Dagg is joined by Daniel Lim, who most recently served as senior associate at Allen & Overy, and also Katie Coltart, who left her associate role at Allen & Overy in 2015 to work as a legal consultant. They will both serve as partners at Kirkland & Ellis.

Lim is a patent litigator in the life sciences sector, with a focus on pharmaceutical diagnostics, precision medicine, and cell and gene therapy. He has a broad range of expertise in these fields, including in oncology, immunology, neurology, and biostatistics.

Coltart similarly focuses her practice on patent litigation in the life sciences field, as well as in technology. She has assisted clients with matters relating to antibody and protein biologics, next generation sequencing technologies, vaping technologies, and wireless and mobile communications.

She also advises clients on trade secrets and trademarks, as well as on IP licensing matters in the finance, retail, and media sectors.

Associates Jin Ooi and Steven Baldwin will also be joining the partners at Kirkland & Ellis.

Ooi has experience in litigating and arbitrating trade secrets disputes in the medical device, technology, and aviation sectors, while Baldwin has acted on complex cross-border life sciences and telecommunications patent disputes.

Jeffrey Hammes, chairman of Kirkland’s global management executive committee, said: “Nicola is one of the leading lights of the UK IP community. She, Daniel, Katie, Jin and Steven form a first-class team of litigators with comprehensive experience across the spectrum of IP matters that are important to our clients.”
