BCLP hires 15-strong IP group from Dentons

Dentons’ global chair of IP, US chair, and five partners move to BCLP to strengthen its Section 337 offering.

Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) has announced the group hire of 15 IP partners and support lawyers from Dentons.

The switch sees Song Jung become BCLP’s global chair of patents, joined by a team of five partners from Dentons.

Jung previously chaired the global IP and technology group at his previous firm, where he also served on the firm’s board.

A group of eight counsel and patent professionals has also made the move, with additional team members onboarding in the coming weeks.

Jeff Haidet, former Dentons US chair, will also be joining BCLP as a corporate partner.

The group’s arrival aims to strengthen BCLP’s global patent prosecution, transactional, and International Trade Commission (ITC) Section 337 capabilities.

“Led by Song and Jeff, the addition of this impressive group amplifies BCLP’s growth strategy and our commitment to leading high-stakes litigation and strategic transactions around the globe,” said BCLP co-chairs Lisa Mayhew and Steve Baumer.

“In particular, the depth of IP experience and technical expertise that this group brings is a game-changer, and we look forward to serving the needs of clients in the high-growth areas of IP and technology,” continued Mayhew and Baumer.

Trade secrets expertise

Jung will assume the role of global chair of patents at BCLP and lead a six-partner IP team.

His expertise includes patent prosecution, litigation, validity and infringement opinions, licensing, technology transfer, patent acquisitions, and settlement negotiations.

Jung has been involved in numerous high-profile cases such as the LG Chem v SK Innovation trade secrets dispute, resulting in a settlement of $1.8 billion.

Prior to his legal career, Jung served as an electrical engineer at NASA. He has also assumed a role on the advisory board for the TMRW Foundation, alongside the former Prime Minister of Ireland, Enda Kenny, and former CEO and chair of Deutsche Bank, Josef Ackermann.

BCLP’s new partners

The firm’s new partner hires include Mark Kresloff, who specialises in patent prosecution, including wireless telecommunication networks, standardisation protocols, space and aviation technologies, and subsea and surface marine technologies.

Kresloff also helps clients navigate patent and data rights provisions under government contracts.

Bumrae Cho’s practice centres around patent litigation, patent prosecution, and client counselling. He has a focus on chemical, petrochemical, biotech, pharmaceutical, and secondary battery technologies.

Yong Choi specialises in patent issues related to electronic, electrical, and mechanical fields. His expertise extends to home appliances, virtual reality, digital television standards, and codec standards.

Tyler Goodwyn has handled jury and bench trials in federal; district courts across the US covering a range of technologies. He has also led trial teams at the ITC and participated in hearings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Bruce Vance focuses on prosecuting US and foreign patent applications. He covers areas such as financial products, web interfaces, and internet communications systems, among others.
