Amazon’s VP and counsel to lead INTA in 2024

INTA welcomes VP and associate general counsel at Amazon as its 2024 president | Election held yesterday leads to announcement of 2024 INTA officers

The  International Trademark Association (INTA) has announced that  Dana Northcott will become its 2024 president and the chair of its board of directors.

Northcott is the vice president and associate general counsel at  Amazon.

She will begin her one-year term on January 1, 2024, succeeding  Jomarie Fredericks, deputy general counsel and chief IP and brand counsel at  Rotary International.

The election of Northcott and the 2024 INTA officers took place during the quarterly board meeting yesterday, November 14.

As head of Amazon’s IP team, Northcott shaped its IP strategies and policies, collaborating with the e-commerce company’s marketing, security, and public policy teams on brand protection, anticounterfeiting, advertising, marketing, internet governance and litigation.

She has also represented Amazon on the governing board of directors for the  Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment.

INTA chief executive  Etienne Sanz de Acedo highlighted Dana’s “years of dedicated service” to the association.

“We know she will bring the spirit of advocacy to what will no doubt be a productive year of her presidency,” he added.

Before joining Amazon, Northcott served as legal counsel for  Agilent Technologies and worked as an attorney for  Howrey in California and London.

Northcott is actively involved in various organisations, serving as an Amazon diversity legal team executive co-sponsor, and as a member of the  US Patent and Trademark Office’s trademark public advisory committee.

Additionally, she is a member of the  Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers IP group, and a board member of the PNW Chapter of  Chiefs in IP.

Within INTA, Northcott serves on the executive committee of the board and is chair of the planning committee.

Her involvement includes contributions to committees and project teams, such as the Trademarks and the Internet Conference Committee-Registration Practice and the DNS Administration Subcommittee, as well as the Internet Committee-Domain Disputes, Ownership and the Whois subcommittee.

Commenting on her appointment, Northcott said: “I am both honoured and excited to be named INTA’s 2024 president. I want to thank Ms. Fredericks for her incredible leadership and contributions throughout 2023.

“As we move into 2024, I look forward to leveraging INTA’s values and expertise to drive sustainable growth and address the evolving challenges facing the IP community,” she added.
