Thapelo Mmotong

Admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2017, Thapelo Mmotong quickly established himself as a qualified and registered patent attorney. 

His professional journey includes roles at Adams & Adams Attorneys, progressing from candidate attorney to partner in 2023. 

Prior to his legal career, he worked as a process engineer at Worley Parsons TWP and Transnet Engineering. He specialises in patents and designs, with his practice encompassing drafting, filing, prosecution, and enforcement. 

Additionally, Mmotong has published numerous articles covering diverse subjects including artificial intelligence in inventorship, technological innovation, compulsory licensing, and IP challenges in emerging technologies like 3D printing and the gaming industry. 

Mmotong is a sought-after speaker, delivering presentations at the WIPO Summer School and engaging with students across South African and East African universities. 

His commitment to knowledge sharing focuses on patent research, IP protection, and inspiring future innovators.
