Potter Clarkson targets Scottish market with new office

Firm aims to tap into city’s ‘innovation and entrepreneurialism’ | IP team has ‘long-established’ client relationships in Scotland.

Potter Clarkson has opened an office in central Glasgow, which it says will assist its growing client base of investors and SMEs across Scotland.

Partner Deborah Maxwell will head up the new office, which is based on West Regent Street. Maxwell has over a decade of experience as a patent and design attorney and is also the firm’s equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) partner.

The team in Glasgow will also include patent attorneys Sara Holland and Veronika Brázdová, and litigation and licensing partner Dave Holt, who all have “long-established” client relationships in Scotland.

Potter Clarkson says it intends to build on its existing Scottish client roster as well as expand into a range of sectors including space, energy and cleantech, industrial biotechnology, manufacturing, and medtech.

“Helping businesses to scale up is recognised as a key priority for the future prosperity of Scotland and that is our focus at Potter Clarkson, whether that is by working directly with ambitious startups and SMEs or supporting investors with IP due diligence,” said Maxwell.

“Glasgow has a rich history of innovation and entrepreneurialism, which continues today with widespread investment in seriously cutting-edge areas of technology.

“We can bring our expertise in all areas of intellectual property, from patents and trademarks to design and trade secrets, as well as our specialist sector knowledge, to ensure these companies with high growth potential become a long-term commercial success.”

Potter Clarkson already has offices in London, Nottingham, Copenhagen, Aarhus, Stockholm and Lund.
