Who does Advancing America’s Interests Act really help?
The Advancing America's Interests Act ( AAIA) was proposed in May by US Representatives David Schweikert and Don Beyer.
This bill aims to amend Section 337 of the US Tariff Act of 1930, which is the enabling statute of the International Trade Commission (ITC).
Identical versions were proposed during the 116th and 117th Congresses but were never passed. Now, the hope is that it will be third-time lucky.
But opinion of the Act is divided, being simultaneously lauded as reforming the ITC to limit abuse by non-practising entities (NPEs) and protecting patent owners; and slammed for penalising small innovators.
