Disney tries to patent ‘foot tracking’ technology
Disney has applied for a patent at the US Patent and Trademark Office for a device that uses “foot recognition” to create a “customised guest experience” in its theme parks.
The multinational applied for the patent on April 2, 2015 and it was published on July 19, 2016.
According to the patent’s abstract it is “a system and method for creating a customised guest experience at an amusement park”.
The patent describes technology for foot sensors that capture guests' movements and gather data from them.
According to the patent’s specifications, the data collected can be used to determine factors like the most popular rides and common paths guests take from ride to ride.
“The foot model can be used to identify a particular guest and the guest data can be used to output customised experience to the guest,” the abstract said.
