Former FCC lawyer re-joins his former firm

A former deputy counsel for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is re-joining law firm Davis Wright Tremaine (DWT) LLP.

Peter Karanjia will be based at the Washington, DC branch of the firm and join its media, IP & technology group.

Karanjia brings more than a decade of experience in media and IP law to the role.

During his tenure at the FCC, Karanjia argued a number of precedent-setting cases before federal appellate courts and also led litigation in the US Supreme Court.

Prior to entering public service, Karanjia worked as a partner in DWTs New York office.

DWT managing partner Dave Baca said Karanjia’s “unparalleled expertise” would be an enormous asset to clients.

"I am thrilled to be able to work again with my colleagues and friends at DWT," Karanjia said.

"DWT has successfully fused its long-recognised First Amendment and media practice with its outstanding IP, telecommunications, and privacy practices.

"Clients’ needs in these areas increasingly overlap as their business models continue to evolve."

Karanjia holds law degrees from Harvard Law School and the University of Oxford.

DWT is a US law firm with nine offices and approximately 500 lawyers representing clients based both in the US and around the world.
