Bristows appoints joint managing partner

Bristows has appointed Liz Cohen, the co-head of the firm’s life sciences practice, as joint managing partner.

Cohen succeeds the firm’s previous joint managing partner, Theo Savvides, who tragically died in a cycling accident in France in July.

The newly appointed partner joined Bristows as a trainee in 1999 and was promoted to partnership in 2008.

She advises clients on patent litigation in the English courts and on litigation strategy for the European market.

She will retain her role as co-head of the life sciences practice, while working with Marek Petecki, the firm’s other joint managing partner and a partner in its corporate team.

At the time of Savvides’s passing, Bristows said that “his unshakable integrity and commitment to the firm and its values made him an obvious choice for the job, and he undertook it with the enthusiasm, wisdom and thoughtfulness that underpinned his great professional success as a lawyer”.

On Cohen’s appointment, Petecki said: “Liz is a highly respected lawyer and a fantastic ambassador for the firm. I’m really looking forward to working with her in her new role, at what is a very exciting time for the firm.”

Cohen added that she was excited for the new challenge and felt “privileged to be able to contribute to the development of the firm’s strategy and direction”.

Bristows has also promoted senior associates Gregory Bacon and Gemma Barrett to partnership with effect from November1.

Both joined the firm as trainees and are experienced contentious IP specialists with a focus on patent litigation.
