King & Spalding hires veteran ‘first-chair trial lawyer’

The new partner has more than 30 years’ experience in high-stakes litigation, including patent, trademark and trade secrets cases.

King & Spalding has appointed trial lawyer Mary-Olga (Mo) Lovett as partner in its Trial and Global Disputes practice group in Houston, Texas.

Lovett was recently recognised by Chambers USA as a Band One Trial Lawyer, and has actively promoted women in litigation.

Spanning a career of more than 30 years, Lovett has tried more than 50 cases worth more than $100 billion at stake. Her broad trial practice includes patent infringement, trademark infringement and theft of trade secrets.

She has tried cases to verdict in state and federal courts in more than 20 jurisdictions and has also represented US and international clients in appellate litigation before state and federal courts of appeal and the Texas Supreme Court.

Lovett joins the firm after 18 years at Greenberg Traurig, where she was senior vice president and a member of its Global Executive Committee.

Andy Bayman, leader of the King & Spalding’s Trial and Global Disputes practice group, said of Lovett’s appointment: “Mo is a proven first-chair trial lawyer and strategic thinker known for her fierce advocacy on behalf of her clients and her ability to take the most complex cases to verdict.

“We are proud to welcome her as the latest addition to our preeminent trial bench.”

Tracie Renfroe, office managing partner of the firm’s Houston office, also commented, saying that by recruiting Lovett, the firm is “continuing our commitment to provide our clients with best-in-class legal representation for their most significant disputes.”

“In addition to Mo’s impressive record in high stakes litigation, she also brings to our team a collaborative spirit and commitment to develop our junior talent,” continues Renfroe. “We are thrilled she has joined our ranks.”

Lovett said she is “energised” and “excited” by the move.

“King & Spalding has thoughtfully developed and communicated a vision for its future and strategically executed on it, and I’m energised by the idea of helping further it, both at the firm-level and for this elite trial team.

“King & Spalding is a place where I know I can build off the firm’s strong platform to create more opportunities for my trial practice and for my new colleagues, which is very important to me. I couldn’t be more excited to be part of this team.”

Writing on her LinkedIn account, Lovett said she is “thrilled” to announce her new role.

“The chance to join my peerless new colleagues in this endeavour is a lifelong dream come true,” she added.
