Through her leadership in patent law, extensive work with emerging and established technology companies, commitment to mentoring the next generation of IP professionals, and advocacy for women and underrepresented groups in the profession, Hayley Talbert has established herself as an influential voice in the intellectual property field. 

Managing partner at Seed Intellectual Property Law Group, she also chairs the firm’s Management Committee and leads the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Group. She is admitted to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the Washington State Bar.

Talbert works closely with clients ranging from early-stage technology incubators to Fortune 100 companies, advising on international patent strategy, portfolio development, licensing, and commercialisation. 

Her technical practice spans a broad range of advanced technologies, including MEMS sensors, cloud-based data systems, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) applications, memory architectures, flexible display technologies, thin film transistor systems, fuel-cell systems, and emerging materials such as hemp-based plastics and weatherproof paper products.

She has developed advanced portfolio management and prosecution systems incorporating AI-assisted tools, prior art search strategies, and continuation and divisional planning frameworks. She also has strong expertise in integrating client IP systems with Anaqua and similar platforms to improve prosecution efficiency and workflow management.

Talbert is an active speaker at international conferences, including American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) meetings and the Euro Law Conference. She also hosts and participates in IP leadership and professional development events, including AIPLA Women in IP programmes.

On top of her practice, she is a professor at the University of Washington School of Law, where she teaches patent prosecution, and regularly engages with students at multiple educational levels to promote understanding of IP law. Talbert also plays a central role in promoting inclusion and accessibility within her firm and the broader IP profession.
