Frances Salisbury

Key details

  • Job title: Partner
  • Firm: Mewburn Ellis
  • Jurisdiction: UK

Frances Salisbury’s technical expertise spans personalised medicine, antigen-binding molecules (including aptamers and antibodies), cell therapies (including CAR-T and TCRs), women’s health, and plant science (including patents, plant variety rights and national listings).

Salisbury has played a central role in significant contentious and transactional IP matters. Notable cases include offensive opposition proceedings for Boehringer Ingelheim, resulting in the full revocation of EP3463315 and amendment of EP3619232 through written procedure, supporting freedom-to-operate for product repurposing.

She also led IP due diligence for ClavystBio’s $70 million investment into CoV Biotechnology, and advised Singzyme on patent strategy, drafting and prosecution leading to a Golden Ticket (a corporate award that grants early-stage startups rent-free lab space, shared infrastructure, and direct mentorship from a major pharmaceutical company or incubator).

Salisbury has also supported multiple Golden Ticket-winning clients, including Singzyme (2025), PairX Bio (2024), Albatroz (2023) and Carmine Therapeutics (2019).

She is one of the founding members of her firm’s BioSocial NW group that meets regularly in Manchester (UK) and is also widely recognised for her leadership in gender equality and workplace culture transformation within the IP profession.

This includes membership of the AIPLA Women in IP Committee (Personal and Professional Development Subcommittee), co-founding the Women in IP and Innovation LinkedIn group, and serving as Women’s Champion and founding member of WoMEn (Women of Mewburn Ellis Network).
