Arty Rajendra

Arty Rajendra specialises in litigation across patents, trademarks, copyright, database rights, and broader enforcement and licensing disputes.

Rajendra focuses on complex, multi-jurisdictional IP litigation and has acted in numerous leading cases before the UK Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court, and the Court of Justice of the European Union. Her practice spans some of the most technically and legally significant disputes in the IP field, particularly in telecommunications, technology, life sciences, and consumer goods.

In patent law, Rajendra has been involved in several landmark standard-essential patent (SEP) and FRAND licensing disputes, including acting for Unwired Planet in its UK Supreme Court case against Huawei. 

She also acts for Optis in its FRAND litigation against Apple and for Avanci in licensing and jurisdiction disputes involving Tesla. Her broader patent litigation experience includes technologies such as motion sensing, location tracking, virtual reality, and advanced mechanical systems.

In trademark and broader IP litigation, Rajendra acted for the successful claimant in Frank Industries v Nike, a significant case involving trademark infringement, passing off, and issues of descriptiveness. She also advises on copyright, database rights, exhaustion of rights (including parallel imports), and extended passing off.

Rajendra is influential because she sits at the centre of many of the UK and Europe’s most consequential IP disputes, particularly in SEP/FRAND litigation, and combines deep technical understanding with courtroom advocacy experience at the highest judicial levels. 

She also contributes to the profession as chair of the Intellectual Property Lawyers’ Association (IPLA) and a member of the IP Court Users’ Committee, giving her direct involvement in shaping the wider IP litigation ecosystem.
