China PRC Patents Rankings 2025

SITAO IP

Firm overview:

One of the newer firms in China’s IP sphere, SITAO IP has been making a name for itself since its founding in 2018 as a specialist in patent monetisation. The firm is especially synonymous with FRAND/SEP licensing and dispute resolution, and handles complex patent disputes and transactions in the country.

The firm has strategically built a team with expertise in standards-related sectors such as wireless communications, audio and video codecs, and lithium battery technologies. SITAO’s clients include global technology companies, patent owners, licensing professionals and IP investors. The firm’s inclusion in the Ranking reflects its involvement in landmark patent cases and commercially-focused counsel.

Team overview:

Founding and managing partner of SITAO Dragon Wang is a dual-qualified patent attorney and litigator, with significant in-house and private practice experience. Wang’s representation of big-name clients such as Ericsson, Sony, Apple and Seiko Epson in patent actions, and strategic advice, justifies his place in the Rankings. Also notable is his appointment as the vice chair of the Dispute Resolution Committee of the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) for the 2025-2026 term.

Key matters:

  • VoiceAge EVS: Standard-essential patent (SEP) cases

In June 2025, the Fuzhou Intermediate People’s Court of Fujian Province issued a first-instance judgment in favour of SITAO’s client VoiceAge EVS. The court ruled that HMD Global had infringed VoiceAge EVS’s patents by selling certain Nokia handset models and failed to fulfill its duty as a technology implementer to negotiate a licence on FRAND terms.

The case is part of a wider enforcement strategy by VoiceAge against HMD, in which VoiceAge has secured favourable decisions in Germany, Brazil and other jurisdictions.
