Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe
Firm overview:
With a longstanding presence in China, Orrick is a top choice for contentious patent matters in the country. In 2024, the firm consolidated its Chinese operations in Beijing after the lease on its Shanghai office expired in July. Orrick said this move—and the closing of its office in Taiwan—reflected a “rebalancing of our Asia Pacific platform, including the launch of our Singapore office in 2021, to align with client demand”.
Part of this strategy is a focus on litigation, and the Beijing team offers the technical and legal expertise to handle the most challenging disputes. As a further testament to its quality, Orrick’s IP litigation practice is recognised by China’s Ministry of Foreign Commerce as a “preferred US law firm” for Chinese businesses facing patent infringement claims before the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
The team also advises on cross-border transactions, and commercial and IP regulatory matters.
Team overview:
Partner-in-charge for Asia Xiang Wang splits his time between New York and Beijing, where he is the managing partner. Wang also heads the China IP and Data Privacy & Cybersecurity practices, and has extensive experience assisting local and foreign-based multinational clients with all aspects of their IP rights in China and the US.
