USITC to investigate Lenovo, Acer and Asus
The US International Trade Commission (USITC) has instituted an investigation into nine laptop manufacturers and chip makers, after a complaint by California-based technology company Tela Innovations.
Tela originally filed a December 2018 complaint against Lenovo, China’s largest supplier of personal computers, which alleged that Lenovo exports products to the US that infringe its patents.
Yesterday, March 11, the USITC said it would be investigating nine companies, including Acer, Asus and Intel.
Tela’s complaint alleged that the companies imported and sold certain products that infringed five of its patents (US numbers 7,943,966; 7,948,012; 10,141,334; 10,141,335; and 10,186,523) covering a range of integrated circuits.
These products included microprocessors, modems, laptops, desktops, computer tablets and notebooks.
The USITC said the companies must submit responses to the complaint within 20 days.
