Norton Rose Fulbright appoints emerging tech specialist to lead in San Francisco
Partner who joined in 2022 replaces Jeff Margulies | Expertise in emerging technologies for healthcare, food, and life sciences.
Norton Rose Fulbright has named Jason Novak as the new partner-in-charge of its San Francisco office, effective January 1, 2024.
Novak, an emerging technologies lawyer, will take over from Jeff Margulies, who has led both the San Francisco and Los Angeles offices for the past five years.
Novak specialises in navigating legal issues associated with emerging technologies in healthcare, food, and life sciences, and is known for his experience in IP and data rights strategy.
His focus extends to "convergence" technologies, such as digital health and personalised/precision medicine, operating at the intersection of multiple industries.
Jeff Cody, Norton Rose Fulbright's US managing partner, expressed confidence in Novak's ability to lead the San Francisco office.
“Jason is a fantastic lawyer and colleague, and his collaboration and leadership skills will help us continue growing in California,” he added.
Novak's history includes serving as the IP director for Thermo Fisher Scientific and a strong background as a research engineer before entering the legal field.
Prior to joining Norton Rose Fulbright, Novak worked at Haynes and Boone, and also spent time at McDermott Will & Emery and K&L Gates.
He is licensed in California and Illinois and is also registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Commenting on his new role, Novak said: "The Bay Area remains, among other things, a hub of innovation, entrepreneurship, technology, healthcare, life sciences, and finance."
