Bird & Bird bulks up global IP practice

Bird & Bird has promoted six IP attorneys across its European and Asian offices.

Bálint Halász, Eleanor Root and Marta Koremba have been appointed to partner, and Tobias Wilcke, Tung-Gia Du and Victor Tse have been promoted to counsel.

Halász, based in Hungary, also heads up Bird & Bird’s IP group in Budapest. He represents national and international clients across a variety of industries including electronics, pharmaceuticals and IT, and also handles licensing matters in life sciences.

In the UK, Root coordinates multijurisdictional patent litigation and has acted for a number of pharmaceutical companies in high-profile proceedings. She advises clients in the life sciences and healthcare sectors on regulatory, branding and public policy issues.

Practising in Poland, Koremba assists clients in matters involving IP and unfair competition, and has represented clients before the Polish Patent Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Her expertise covers sectors including life sciences, food and drink, and telecommunications.

Wilcke and Du are both based in Germany. Wilcke’s work focuses on patent and utility models, and Du’s practice centres on patent disputes in the life sciences, including fields such as biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, and medical devices.

China-based Tse specialises in software, electronics and robotics matters. He represents technology companies and financial institutions in licensing negotiations and the commercialisation of IP, as well as advising on disputes concerning trade secrets.

Massimiliano Mostardini, chairman of Bird & Bird, said: “Huge congratulations to each of these individuals who represent our talent here at Bird & Bird. I look forward to seeing them reach their full potential over the next few years.”
