USPTO adds new chief judge at PTAB

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has hired David Ruschke as the new chief judge of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Ruschke joins from Medtronic’s CSH business unit, where he worked as chief patent counsel.

He has experience in patent appeals, and post-grant and inter partes reviews. He also hss judicial experience as a clerk for Judge Arthur Gajarsa at the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

He said: “Director [Michelle] Lee has assembled a highly talented and hard-working team at the USPTO. I am excited to have the opportunity to join the talented judges and staff of the PTAB as we work together to serve America’s inventors.”

Ruschke’s new role will begin on May 23.
