Trump announces IPEC nomination
US president Donald Trump has nominated Vishal Amin to fill the position of Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC).
Amin currently serves as senior counsel on the House Judiciary Committee.
He served in the administration of President George W Bush as associate director for domestic policy, and at the US Department of Commerce as special assistant and associate director for policy in the Office of the Secretary.
The IPEC is responsible for coordinating the US government’s response to IP infringement, working with groups including federal agencies, law enforcement organisations and foreign governments.
Bob Barchiesi, president of the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition, said: “Amin’s years as a public servant in both the executive and legislative branches of government make him well-qualified to assume the position of IPEC.”
He urged the Senate to act swiftly in considering Amin’s nomination.
“IP is vital to the US economy, and the IPEC plays a vital role in developing and implementing a cohesive policy across the executive branch agencies tasked with protecting and enforcing IP rights,” added Barchiesi.
Earlier this week, Judge Neil Gorsuch was confirmed as a US Supreme Court Justice.
Gorsuch, formerly of the US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, was nominated in February by Trump.
