Innovative Memory Solutions accused Micron of infringing eight patents related to semiconductor technology in 2014 | All pending patent litigation with Micron in the US and China has now been dismissed.

Patent licensing firm Wi-LAN has announced a licensing and settlement agreement between three of its subsidiaries and semiconductor company Micron.

In a press release shared Friday, 21 October, Micron said that it has now obtained a licence to patents owned by Wi-LAN’s subsidiaries Innovative Memory Solutions, North Star Innovations, and Cetus Technologies.

Each of the patents relates to semiconductor memory technologies. The licence fees payable by US-based Micron for the patents are confidential.

As part of the agreement, all pending patent litigation with Micron in the US and China has been settled and dismissed.

One of the suits was due to go to jury trial in November at the US District Court for the District of Delaware.

This particular dispute stems back to 2014, when Innovative Memory Solutions accused Micron of infringing eight patents related to semiconductor technology.

Late last year, Micron settled a long-running dispute with competitor United Microelectronics Corporation over semiconductor IP.

As part of the settlement, Taiwan-based UMC made a one-time payment of an undisclosed amount to Micron.
