Ashurst hires former BBC IP lawyer in digital economy team
The IP transactions expert is appointed head of UK IP to strengthen the firm’s digital economy practice.
Ashurst has announced the appointment of previous BBC employee Sunny Kumar on June 1.
Kumar will be a partner and UK head of IP, working within the firm’s digital economy team, after previously working in the IP transactions team at the BBC.
Nick Elverston, global co-head of Ashurst's digital economy practice recognised the rapidly evolving digital landscape with IP being of “increasing importance” and a “key driver of projects and corporate transactions”.
The new hire’s “insight and approach will be a valuable addition” to Ashurst’s IP department, added Elverston.
The addition of Kumar is expected “to continue growth in both the corporate and digital economy platforms”, according to Jason Radford, the firm's global co-head of corporate.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Kumar acknowledged the firm's “global footprint” and “stellar reputation” in the digital economy sector.
Kumar, brings experience in advising on IP matters across sectors, including financial services, technology, life sciences, and media. His expertise lies in handling IP transactions and managing trademark portfolios, said the firm in a statement.
