Key details

  • Job title: Partner and Co-Head of IP
  • Firm: CMS
  • Jurisdiction: UK

Sarah Wright co-leads the firm’s intellectual property team in London, where she focuses on contentious and non-contentious matters and advises clients on the full lifecycle of IP protection, enforcement and commercialisation.

Her core practice centres on trademarks and designs, including portfolio management, enforcement strategy and licensing. She regularly represents clients before the UK Intellectual Property Office, the EU Intellectual Property Office, and the UK courts, and advises on the IP aspects of corporate transactions, advertising compliance and brand-led commercial strategies. Her work covers a wide range of sectors, including consumer products, life sciences, financial services and technology.

She advises a broad portfolio of major clients across multiple sectors, including Actavis, Allergan, Dexcom and VidaCorp, as well as financial services and technology organisations such as Legal & General, Aldermore Bank, Crown Agents Bank and Elixirr Consulting.

In recent years, she has increasingly worked on matters at the intersection of artificial intelligence and intellectual property, contributing to industry discussions on how emerging technologies are reshaping IP protection and enforcement. She spoke on this subject at the Fordham IP Conference in April 2025 and at the Copyright Society meeting in Dublin in October 2025.

Wright is an active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) Designs Committee and she participated on a panel at the INTA 2026 Annual Meeting in London in a session focused on design law reform and brand protection strategy.

She is also involved with the Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group (PTMG), where she participates in conferences and contributes to knowledge sharing within the global IP community.
