Liliane Roriz

As a former federal district court judge and appellate judge at the Federal Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in Brazil, Liliane Roriz brings more than two decades of judicial experience to her IP practice. 

Roriz previously served as a federal attorney at the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office before being appointed to the federal judiciary, where she presided over landmark intellectual property cases and chaired both the Federal Magistracy School (EMARF) and the Second Specialized IP Panel. 

After retiring from the bench, she joined Licks Attorneys in 2013 and became one of the firm’s senior leaders, also serving as president of its Diversity & Inclusion Committee. In this role, she has led initiatives to increase representation of women in IP, including hosting events highlighting gender balance in the judiciary and broader legal profession, and promoting data-driven discussion on inclusion in Brazil’s courts.

Roriz also plays a leading role in legal education, teaching at institutions such as Fundação Getulio Vargas and Universidade Candido Mendes, and contributing to judicial and professional training through the Brazilian Bar Association’s higher legal education school. 

Her work spans litigation, IP policy, and academic engagement, and she is widely recognised as a leading authority in Brazilian IP law. 

Roriz is also a prolific speaker and author across Brazil and internationally, and she is consistently ranked in leading legal directories for her expertise in IP and patent law. Alongside her technical contributions, she is strongly committed to mental health and workplace wellbeing in the legal profession.
