- Firm: European Union Intellectual Property Office
- Jurisdiction: Spain
Edyta Demby-Siwek is the first woman to serve as deputy executive director in the EUIPO’s 30-year history, marking a significant milestone for women in leadership within the intellectual property system.
Her appointment reflects the growing presence of women in senior roles across European IP institutions, where they remain underrepresented overall.
She assumed the role in January 2025, bringing more than two decades of experience in IP administration and policy at both national and European level.
Prior to joining EUIPO, Demby-Siwek served as president of the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland (2019–2024).
In that role, she led a wide-ranging modernisation and digital transformation programme, strengthening user-focused services and Poland’s engagement within the European and international IP system.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she oversaw operational continuity measures enabling remote working across the office to maintain uninterrupted service delivery.
Previously, she was director of the trademark department at the Polish Patent Office, where she contributed to key reforms of the Polish trademark system and supported amendments to national IP legislation.
She also oversaw the introduction of artificial intelligence-assisted tools designed to improve efficiency in patent classification and examination processes.
Throughout her career, Demby-Siwek has represented Poland in European and international IP forums, cooperating with institutions including the European Commission, the European Patent Office and the World Intellectual Property Organization, contributing to discussions on policy development and harmonisation within the European IP framework.
Her leadership is widely associated with modernisation, digital transformation, and institutional reform within IP administration, alongside a sustained contribution to strengthening cooperation across European IP offices and international organisations.
