US law professor joins White House

A US university law professor has been appointed to serve as a senior IP advisor to the US government.

Colleen Chien (pictured) has been selected to serve in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy as senior advisor for IP and innovation.

Chien will take a leave from her teaching duties at Santa Clara University School of Law, in California, to fulfil her new appointment.

In the new role, Chien will advise Todd Park, chief technology officer for the US government, on issues related to IP and innovation, as well as privacy, open government, and civil liberties.
