Iain Russell has become the second EIP attorney to be appointed to the Joint Examination Board.
Russell, who joined EIP in February 2011, is a UK and European patent attorney. Alice Mastrovito, the head of EIP brands, joined the board in May 2008.
Russell’s expertise covers patents in the electronics and mechanical fields, including telecommunications and computer-implemented inventions.
Martin Hammler, of the Joint Examination Board, said: “We were impressed with Russell’s interest in the acquisition of drafting skills.”
Set up in 1990 by the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents (CIPA) and the Institute of Trademark Attorneys (ITMA), the Joint Examination Board organises and manages the examinations of both CIPA and ITMA for entry onto the respective Registers of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys.
Made up of equal numbers of representatives appointed by CIPA and ITMA, the Joint Examination Board currently has six members from each.
