Gowling WLG IP head leaves for Trevisan & Cuonzo after 25 years

Experienced of counsel will support firm’s international plans and UPC practice | New hire to Milan office spent over four decades at firms that eventually became Gowling WLG.

Gowling WLG veteran Gordon Harris is leaving the firm after 25 years as head of IP to join Trevisan & Cuonzo in Milan.

Harris will take up his new post as of counsel on April 1, and use his wealth of experience to support the Italian firm’s international plans and Unified Patent Court (UPC) practice.

With knowledge of the IP landscape across the world, Harris brings expertise in IP transactions, litigation case management and enforcement strategies with a global perspective.

He was involved in the UPC from its early days and has conducted litigation in all UK and European courts. This has included ground-breaking cases on designs and brands in the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).

Harris joined Gowling WLG as a solicitor in 1982 when it was Wragge & Co, and took over the IP team in 1995. Since 2022, his role has encompassed international IP leadership.

The firm merged with Lawrence Graham in 2014 to become WLG.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to work in a top tier IP focused firm such as Trevisan & Cuonzo,” said Harris.

“I have been very focused on the UPC in recent years, so the chance to work with a firm that will be at the very heart of the key Milan Central Division is very attractive to me. I have known some of the team at Trevisan & Cuonzo for over 25 years, so it is not difficult to feel at home with them.

“I think we share the same values about quality, client service and the workplace. All in all, I am delighted by this opportunity and looking forward to working with my new colleagues.”

Managing partner of Trevisan & Cuonzo, Gabriel Cuonzo, added: “Gordon is a friend and we have known him for many years, having worked together in several high impact multi-jurisdictional IP cases.

“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to work closely with him in the future, as he will fit perfectly with our firm’s goals and its dedication in providing high quality services to our clients.”
