USA: National Trademarks Rankings

WIPR Insights presents its inaugural rankings of the leading USA trademark firms and lawyers. Trademarks are increasingly recognised as an under appreciated asset in assessing company value. A recent US study indicated the number of trademarks a firm registers in a year can be a predictor of the company’s profitability and stock value the following year. WIPR Insights’ USA trademarks rankings presents the firms and lawyers global brands rely on to protect and maximise the value of these vital assets in the United States, and beyond.

In the absence of a global trademarks filing system, with the strength and significance of its economy, the United States remains a key, if not the key jurisdiction, for global brands to protect the commercial value of their trademarks. Moreover, the 'first-to-use' trademark system in the US grants common law rights to businesses, protected by a robust court system. In addition, registering a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office provides additional legal benefits and protections, with an official notice and presumption of validity of the trademark owners’ claim.

WIPR Insights’ US trademarks research included market analysis, reviews of submissions, and interviews with firms coast-to-coast in gleaming skyscrapers on Wall Street, Chicago, Los Angeles, DC, Dallas, Seattle and points in between. We also spoke to clients independently sourced, and as referees provided by the firms, and to international lawyers who also assisted ou research for the China Trademarks rankings.

The results detail law firms and lawyers at the forefront of their industry, navigating the impact of technological innovation on trademarks practice, the challenges of domestic and international protection, and the ever demanding contest of representing clients in the robust arena of the court room.

The US Trademarks Rankings also includes two feature articles on the topic of US Trademarks written by WIPR Insights journalists:
