Gibson Dunn

Firm overview:

One of the major players in IP litigation, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher is known for taking on high-profile cases and has won some headline-grabbing awards for patent clients. Clients turn to Gibson Dunn for help in rescuing difficult matters where other firms have tried and failed, and it draws from a deep bench of expertise to tackle legal challenges that are seemingly insurmountable. The team represents a diverse range of clients, in industries including technology, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, automotive, and consumer electronics.

Gibson Dunn’s patent team can lay claim to some of the largest defence victories in patent infringement suits, including for clients EMD Serono and Pfizer in a case involving a multiple sclerosis therapy. The firm represented SharkNinja in its highly publicised patent battle with iRobot over robotic vacuum cleaners, and also names T-Mobile, Fitbit and Novartis among its clients.

Team overview:

New York-based partner Brian Rosenthal is “very sharp, very quick” according to a peer, and “gets to the point of what needs to be done”. A trial lawyer, Rosenthal has litigated more than 120 patent cases, mostly as lead counsel, with representative clients including Cisco, AT&T, SharkNinja, Google, Nespresso, and NXP Semiconductors.

Alongside Rosenthal in New York, partner Charlotte Jacobsen also comes highly recommended by a peer who says she “quickly works out what matters”. Jacobsen has represented life sciences industry clients for more than two decades, combining legal experience with advanced scientific degrees to handle complex disputes.
