UK Trademarks Rankings 2026

Mewburn Ellis

Firm overview:

Mewburn Ellis has a significant footprint across the UK and Europe, with an integrated team of trademark attorneys and solicitors providing a one-stop-shop for brands’ needs. A client who uses Mewburn Ellis for both patent and trademark work says they would “recommend them; they’ve always done good work”. As well as registry proceedings before the UK, German and EU Intellectual Property Offices, the team handles an increasing workload in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC) and High Court.

Team overview:

In addition to leading the trademark team, Andy King handles a wide range of trademark matters, from searches and portfolio reviews to oppositions, revocations and litigation. A client praises King’s “excellent support” and says their whole team is “so pleased with his services”.

Key members of the bench include Jacqueline Pang, experienced in managing large portfolios for global brands, as well as acting in oppositions before the UKIPO and advising on multi-jurisdictional disputes.

Oppositions expert Rebecca Anderson-Smith, a partner in the Bristol office, has a particular focus on managing large trademark portfolios, devising international filing and enforcement strategies, and negotiating settlements in disputes. There is high client praise for her; one says they feel “very lucky” to have Anderson-Smith “by my side assisting and educating me”, while another states she “continues to offer a highly professional service by providing accurate knowledge, consistent communication and also a high success rate on any infringement disputes”.

Senior associate Claire Evans advises on the availability, protection, use and enforcement of trademarks, and has worked with clients in a diverse range of fields including sports and fitness, newspaper publishing and real estate.

Also a senior associate, Joe McAlary handles complex contentious and strategic trademark matters, focusing on clients’ commercial objectives and regularly appearing in proceedings before the UKIPO.

In a significant departure, Kate O’Rourke retired from the firm in December 2025. A past president of the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys, O’Rourke had a distinguished career assisting a range of clients with complex trademark matters.
