Key matters:

  • Ralph Lauren: Trademark and passing off litigation against Superdry

K&L Gates has served as Ralph Lauren’s sole UK representative for all trademark, copyright and design work since 2024. A primary focus of this mandate has been the high-profile trademark and passing-off litigation against Superdry, which alleged infringement of Ralph Lauren’s brand arising from Superdry’s concept store and in store displays at its Oxford Street flagship in London, the sale of second hand Ralph Lauren garments, and the sale of “upcycled” Ralph Lauren clothing.

In May 2025 the team secured an early success for Ralph Lauren in the form of an interim injunction.

  • Nike: UK design and trademark portfolio management

The team continues to manage Nike’s design portfolio, and recently took over management of the brand’s UK and EU trademark portfolios.

  • Mölnlycke Health Care: Global trademark counsel

K&L Gates acts as global trademark counsel for leading medtech company Mölnlycke Health Care, managing its entire portfolio and advising on trademark and design enforcement, infringement strategy and licensing arrangements.
