Womble Bond Dickinson adds New York partners
New hires have experience in advising media, fashion and Fortune 500 companies.
Womble Bond Dickinson has added IP litigators Gregory Gulia and Vanessa Hew as partners in the trademarks, copyrights, and transactions practice group.
The move aligns with the firm's ongoing expansion in New York.
Deborah Vernon, managing partner of the New York office, highlighted Gulia and Hew’s appointments as signalling an “exciting period of growth” for the office.
“Since establishing our New York presence last year, we have continued to attract highly-regarded practitioners,” she added.
Gulia and Hew’s experience handling IP issues will “round out our IP services from New York,” added Vernon.
Gulia’s experience includes advising media companies, retailers, fashion and luxury brands, consumer product companies, and entertainers such as Janet Jackson and Jimmy Buffett.
His expertise spans strategic negotiations of trademark licences, purchases, and consent agreements, with a successful track record of litigation in trademark, copyright, anti-counterfeiting, domain name, unfair competition, trade secrets, rights of publicity and privacy, and First Amendment cases.
Hew specialises in advising Fortune 500 and other companies on IP issues, with a focus on the protection and enforcement of trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and patents, as well as handling breach of contract and unfair competition matters.
She also has experience counselling clients on strategic management and protection of their IP portfolios, providing representation in IP and contract-related disputes, and advising on risk management strategies relating to the use of third-party IP.
Laura Kees, leader of the firm's trademarks, copyrights, and transactions practice group, said: "Vanessa and Greg are strong additions to our team managing global trademark portfolios and guiding brand strategy for clients across multiple industries.
“They have impressive track records representing and defending clients in IP disputes, as well as providing strategic counsel regarding the management and protection of IP portfolios," she added.
