As well as founding Bomhard IP a decade ago, Verena von Bomhard founded her former firm’s office in Alicante in early 1996. That was Boesebeck Droste, a precursor to Hogan Lovells, where she also worked for 16 years. Among her key matters are acting on behalf of Irish fast food chain Supermac’s (alongside Hazel Tunney, partner at Tomkins), prevailing against McDonald’s at the EU General Court in June 2024 in a high-profile dispute over the ‘Big Mac’ trademark. Von Bomhard has extensive experience in all matters relating to the prosecution and enforcement of EU trademarks and designs, in handling proceedings before the General Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in Luxembourg, and in multijurisdictional trademark clearance and portfolio management, as well as advising on complex IP conflicts in the European Union.She is the co-editor of two leading commentaries (in German and English) on EU trademark law, has authored and co-authored numerous books and articles on EU trademarks and design, and is a frequent speaker on these topics. Von Bomhard teaches European trademark law on the Magister Lucentinus at the University of Alicante.An active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), von Bomhard has sat on the board of directors, co-chaired an Annual Meeting, and been involved in various of its committees. She received the 2014 Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of Trademark Law from INTA.
