Hazel Tunney qualified as an Irish and EU design and trademark attorney in 2003.
With a background in both science and law, she has a particular interest in the agri-industry and pharmaceuticals, as well the food, nutraceuticals and beverage industries.
She is particularly passionate about the protection of IP online, and in social media. Key achievements include representing Irish fast food chain Supermac’s (alongside Verena von Bomhard of Bomhard IP), which defeated McDonald’s in a dispute over the ‘Big Mac’ mark at the EU General Court in 2024.
Tunney has tutored candidates for the Irish Trade Mark Agent’s qualifying exams for almost a decade. She lectures at Trinity College Dublin’s Innovation Academy, Trinity Tangent, and The Law Society of Ireland.
She has written articles for the World Trade Mark Law Report, the ECTA Bulletin and is co-author of the Irish chapter of Trade Secrets Throughout the World.
A member of various industry associations, Tunney is an active committee member, and is presently the president of the Irish Association of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys (APTMA).
