RWS Group acquires inovia
Patent translation company RWS Group has acquired inovia, a company that helps patent owners file Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications.
The deal is a “win-win” for both companies and their clients, said David Nelson, inovia chief executive.
“Under the RWS Group umbrella, we will continue to focus on client service and product improvements, with additional resources available for product engineering and research and development.”
Andrew Brode, executive chairman of RWS, added: “We have been impressed for some time with inovia’s cutting-edge technology platform, innovative approach to streamlining foreign patent filing, and the quality of its people.
“As a member of the RWS family, inovia will be able to ... extend the reach and technical capabilities of its [RWS’] offering and to provide users with 24/7 support.”
RWS, which translates more than 65,000 patents and IP-related documents each year, owns PatBase, a professional patent search tool with over 20,000 users.
Inovia says it simplifies the PCT national stage entry, direct (Paris Convention) filing and European validation processes. The company is headquartered in New York, and has offices in London, Munich and Sydney.
