Ice Miller hires former USPTO patent examiner

Law firm Ice Miller has appointed Eric Shaffer as of counsel in the firm’s intellectual property group.

Shaffer has previously served as a patent examiner in the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

His practice involves both foreign and domestic patent preparation and prosecution in the electrical, semiconductor, LED, wireless telecommunications, computer software and data security industries, as well as the chemical and pharmaceutical arts.

He also focuses on re-examination proceedings, freedom to operate counselling and opinions, IP licensing and valuations, and patent litigation.

Michael Wukmer, chair of Ice Miller’s IP group, said: “Eric is a former patent examiner in the USPTO, which, combined with his tenure of experience as a successful patent attorney, gives our clients a full range of patent preparation and prosecution services.”
