Exclusive data visualisation: Samsung leads the way in patent filings

WIPR has published, in collaboration with patent analytics company Patent-Pilot, a new graphic showing the leading patent filers since the turn of the millennium.

The graph shows how Samsung surged ahead in recent years and held a lead of more than 18,000 patent applications over Dutch conglomerate Koninklijke Philips in 2018.

Samsung’s lead has grown consistently since it took top spot in 2005. Japanese companies feature heavily throughout, with Sony and Panasonic appearing in the top five.
