Addisons appoints patents litigator and trademark expert

The Australian law firm expands its IP practice with a new partner specialising in electronics, high technology and life sciences.

Addisons has appointed new partner James Lawrence to its IP practice.

Patents litigator and trademark specialist Lawrence makes the move from being a partner at Mills Oakley.

Lawrence specialises in the resolution of IP disputes, brand protection, portfolio management, copyright, trademark, and patent litigation in various areas including electronics, high technology and life sciences.

Kieren Parker, managing partner at Addisons, said of the move: “We are thrilled James has joined Addisons. James is an experienced IP litigator, with deep expertise advising on patents, copyright, trademark and trade secret disputes.

“James’ appointment as a partner will significantly strengthen our already impressive IP team.”

Lawrence is the editor of the patents chapter in Halsbury’s Laws of Australia and regularly publishes and presents on IP issues.

Additionally, his committees and memberships include: treasurer of the Copyright Society of Australia; member of the IP Society of Australia and New Zealand; and member of the International Trademark Association.

Lawrence said: “I am excited to be joining the IP team at Addisons, which has an exceptional reputation forged over many years.

“I look forward to building on that reputation, not only across the IP landscape generally but in particular in the area of patent disputes.”
