Womble Bond Dickinson boosts IP arm with patent expert

New partner specialises in chemical-related tech | USPTO-registered litigator is also certified licensing professional | Appointment follows several hires in firm’s patents department.

Jeffrey McIntyre has joined Womble Bond Dickinson’s (WBD) patent prosecution and litigation group as a partner in the firm’s Washington, DC, office.

He brings experience in all aspects of patent law, and his practice covers a range of patent prosecution and defence matters, including strategic counsel on due diligence, freedom-to-operate, and pre-litigation contexts and negotiations.

McIntyre joins the firm after spending more than 25 years at law firm Oblon, in Alexandria, Virginia.

Registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), he has experience leading trials in district courts across the country, and is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia and Michigan.

Ryan Cagle, a partner at the firm, said: “With a deep understanding of patent office procedures and extensive knowledge of patent prosecution, Jeff is adept at providing clients with valuable and viable solutions in complex matters.

“His litigation skills and experience in the technology sector will further expand the capabilities of our chemical practice in the southeast and across the firm’s footprint.”

Chris Humphrey, leader of the firm’s patent prosecution and litigation group, added: “Our clients will benefit from Jeff’s dual focus on patent prosecution and strategic counselling, and we are excited to provide a platform where he can continue to build his practice. We look forward to his contribution to the growth of the firm’s patent practice in DC.”

McIntyre’s appointment follows several hires within WBD’s patent prosecution and litigation group, including former ITC attorney Andrew Beverina (DC), leading IP trial lawyer Fabio Marino (Silicon Valley), IP litigation partner Rodney Miller (Atlanta), and patent prosecution attorneys Kevin Davis, (Houston) and Brandon Massengill (Raleigh).

McIntyre joins from a large US law firm focused solely on IP law, where he was a partner in the litigation department.
