NLO promotes patent attorney to associate partner

Netherlands-based IP law firm NLO has promoted Steven Sarlet to associate partner.

The move was announced in a press release issued yesterday, January 3.

Sarlet has been at NLO for two years. He is a patent attorney with a focus on technology, including mechanics, electronics and telecommunications. In the release, NLO said that Sarlet’s appointment would tie in with the firm’s strategy of maximising growth in these sectors.

He focuses his practice on “the patentability of inventions, strategies for IP protection, patent infringements and enforcement, patent validity and licensing agreements”. Sarlet has represented clients in opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office and in national and international cases.

In the release, Sarlet said he was “delighted with this recognition by the NLO partners” and looked forward to developing his business portfolio.

Sarlet previously worked at Gevers, a European IP consultancy with offices in Belgium, France and Switzerland. He served as head of the firm’s patent division from 2013 to 2014.

He also serves on the executive committee of the intellectual property expert group of IE-net, the Flemish engineering association.
