Mayer Brown promotes IP attorneys to partner

Mayer Brown has added three IP attorneys to the partnership, effective from January 1, 2019.

James Fussell, based in Washington, DC, litigates complex patent cases relating to a wide range of technologies, such as semiconductors, operating systems, wireless networks, LEDs, data storage, medical devices, and consumer electronics.

Fussell has represented clients at the federal district courts, the US International Trade Commission, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He additionally counsels clients on IP portfolio management and licensing.

Also in Washington, DC is Justin Park. His practice centres on litigation and arbitration involving domestic and international IP matters. He speaks fluent Korean and has acted for Korean companies such as SK Hynix, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Corporation, and LG Display.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, Michael Word joins the partnership. He has dealt with patents relating to consumer electronics, educational systems, and investment strategies.
Word focuses on patent litigation and dispute resolution, including in the district courts, and he also practises at the Federal Circuit and the PTAB. He advises clients on managing and expanding their patent portfolios, and prosecutes applications in the US.

Paul Theiss, chairman of Mayer Brown, said: “Their promotion is a testament to the trust placed in them by our valued clients, as well as their world-class legal skills and business judgement. In addition, they have demonstrated their collegiality and ability to serve clients across our practice areas and geographic boundaries.”

The three attorneys are among 34 lawyers who have been promoted to partner at the firm.
