Manatt hires new IP head from Quinn Emanuel

California-based law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips has added two to its technology and IP litigation practice.

Amar Thakur will head the practice from the firm’s San Francisco and Orange County offices, having previously served as a partner at Quinn Emanuel since 2012, while Bruce Zisser will be based in Los Angeles.

The firm hailed Thakur as a “pioneer” in alternative fee strategies for complex technology-related litigation, while Zisser, also joining from Quinn Emanuel, has more than 20 years experience litigating patent disputes.

Donna Wilson, CEO and managing partner at the firm, said that “Amar’s and Bruce’s impressive experience trying high-impact technology and patent matters further enhances our bench of experienced litigators”.

The firm last year lost partner Yuri Mikulka to fellow Los Angeles firm, Alston & Bird.
