LG sues Hisense over LED TV technology
LG Electronics has claimed that a Chinese competitor’s TVs infringe four of its patents.
The complaint, filed on November 4 at the US District Court for the Central District of California alleges that electronics manufacturer Hisense has been aware of its infringing products since the beginning of this year.
The patents in dispute (US numbers 8,456,592; 10,334,311; 9,271,191; and 7,839,452) cover a range of technology related to smart televisions, including light-emitting diode (LED) light assembly, user interface and image sharpening technology.
LG said it emailed Hisense on February 1 this year, specifying that certain models of Hisense televisions are infringing its patents.
According to the suit, the Korean company offered to licence the allegedly infringed patents under fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms and conditions.
The filing claims a number of attempts by LG to enter into negotiations with Hisense, which were not successful.
“Hisense repeatedly provided excuses for delaying such a meeting,” LG said.
LG said it met with Hisense in July, where it presented an outline of how Hisense’s products were infringing its technology, and again offered to enter into a licencing agreement.
“Hisense has not agreed. Instead, Hisense has knowingly and intentionally continued to make, use, sell, offer to sell, and import infringing products,” LG said in its claim.
The accused products include Hisense’s 55H9D and 55H9EPlus model edge-lit LED televisions.
