HGF and Squire Patton Boggs unite with innovation hub
Law firms HGF and Squire Patton Boggs have partnered with Nexus, an innovation hub at the University of Leeds, to offer support services for members.
Launched in May last year, Nexus supports a growing community of members made up of technology-led, high growth businesses. Leeds has created more than 110 companies in the last 20 years, six of which are AIM-market listed with a combined value in excess of £500 million ($627 million).
Andy Camenisch, partner at HGF Ltd, said: “Nexus plays an important role in the Leeds City region in providing support and growing innovative businesses.
“Our firm is geographically well placed to provide support to the regional innovation ecosystem and is equally invested in the region. We are looking forward to providing Nexus members with our knowledge and expertise across the sector to help facilitate future growth.”
HGF will provide members with advice and support on patents, trademarks, copyright and database rights and a range of IP services and strategies.
While HGF is joining the community as IP partners, Squire Patton Boggs will be joining as legal partner, providing advice and expertise on topics including investment and fundraising, corporate governance, litigation and dispute resolution and public policy.
William Downs, partner at Squire Patton Boggs, said that the firm has acted on various projects for the University of Leeds over the past few years.
“Our team is looking forward to sharing our insights and knowledge to help organisations in the Nexus community, as they develop, finance and commercialise their innovations, working alongside Nexus and their other professional services partners,” he added.
Martin Stow, Nexus director, said: “Nexus brings together the brightest minds from business, technology and academia and we are excited to welcome Squire Patton Boggs and HGF to our community.”
He added: “Both organisations have a long history of supporting fast growing innovative businesses and I have no doubt that they will be a very valuable asset to the Nexus community and help our members accelerate and grow.”
