Anaqua acquires software company
IP service provider Anaqua has acquired O P Solutions, an IP management software and practice automation provider, as it seeks to strengthen its law firm product line.
O P Solutions’ flagship product Pattsy Wave, a browser-based docketing software, will join Anaqua for Law Firms as a second distinct brand.
Bob Romeo, CEO of Anaqua, said: “Both companies share a deep commitment to providing our client communities and the broader market with best-in-class software solutions.
“With deep roots in the IP practice management segment, O P Solutions will strengthen Anaqua’s law firm domain expertise and provide a strong catalyst for future success in this market.”
Spencer Siskind will step down from his current role as CEO of O P Solutions, while the rest of the team will join the Anaqua business.
Siskind added: “The combination of the two companies will serve to address the growing demand for increased efficiency in IP practice automation. Since my initial interactions with the Anaqua team, I have been impressed with the company’s success both globally and within the corporate market, and believe our core competencies complement each other well.”
Earlier this year, WIPR conducted a survey, in association with Bradstock, to delve into the IP service provider industry and try to find out how the dynamics of the sector are changing.
Anaqua isn’t the only provider in the IP industry that’s made deals this year—in January, trademark and brand protector Corsearch purchased Pointer Brand Protection, a provider of anti-counterfeiting and brand protection services.
And, it’s been a busy few years of M&A for the industry, resulting in bigger players in a smaller pond. Over the past two years, French IP service provider Questel acquired a majority stake in German provider Brandstock, adding trademark expertise to an established patent and translation offering.
CPA Global has acquired the management business of Clarivate Analytics, market insight tool Filing Analytics and patent alert tool Citation Eagle, before agreeing to merge with rival IP management company ipan/Delegate Group.
Clarivate Analytics also acquired case law data company Darts-ip late last year.
