AIPPI 2015: Association embraces the technological age
The 2015 AIPPI World Congress is the first of its kind to go “paperless”, in a new paper-saving initiative implemented by the association.
Delegates can access and download congress documents onto their laptops, smartphones and tablets as part of an environment protecting scheme.
The International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) is hosting the meeting in Rio de Janeiro from October 10 to 14.
Documents will be available for download at emeeting.aippi.org and are also available on AIPPI’s official smartphone apps, which can be downloaded on Google Play and the App Store.
Branding the congress the “e-meeting”, AIPPI said it was hoping the event would be as “paperless” as possible over the course of the next four days.
“AIPPI is excited to be taking this initiative in Rio, a city closely associated with global initiatives to protect the environment,” meeting organiser Cinizia Petruzzello said.
“In the technological and environmentally-sensitive world of 2015, it is certainly to be expected that AIPPI’s congress will have much less paper,” she added.
It is fitting that the “paperless” meeting is launching this year given today’s, October 12, two-hour panel session which explores green technology and the potential impact on intellectual property rights.
Draft resolutions for AIPPI’s working questions for 2015, which include an assessment of the exceptions to and limitations on copyright law, and a look at multi-jurisdictional rules surrounding trade secrets, will still be printed for delegates.
For those without access to smartphones or laptops, it will be possible to individually print the usual congress documents.
The congress centre will have specially designed stations available for delegates who wish to print meeting-related documents.
The 2015 AIPPI World Congress runs from October 10 to 14 at the Windsor Barra Hotel and Congressos in Rio.
