Lewis Silkin acquires tech and life sciences firm

Lewis Silkin has integrated MSK into its practice to better manage complex portfolios across various tech sectors.

Lewis Silkin has acquired London-based patent and trademark firm Miller Sturt Kenyon (MSK). The move serves to improve Lewis Silkin’s expertise in the tech and life sciences fields.

The acquisition entails the integration of MSK managing director Andy Cloughley and director Matthew Turner as partners at Lewis Silkin. They will be followed by their wider team.

Jo Farmer, joint managing partner at Lewis Silkin commented: “Competitive advantage is increasingly driven by innovation, with technological advancements creating new opportunities to capture market share.”

“Brands seeking to create, protect and commercialise their ideas has never been more important, and demand for specialist patent expertise is on the rise.

With a history dating back to 1957, MSK, or J Miller & Co as it was previously known, has nearly 70 years of experience in IP and patents.

MSK specialises in tech and life sciences sectors, including areas such as engineering, electronics and consumer devices, nanotechnology, semiconductors and materials, telecommunications, software and IT, medical devices and optics, and chemistry, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals.

Cloughley commented: “It's an incredibly exciting time for MSK to be joining Lewis Silkin, with the two firms aligned in our strategic outlook, expertise and experience, and Lewis Silkin bringing our existing clients added depth of legal specialism in our key markets around the world—from the UK and EU to Asia and the US.”

“Bringing the teams together will make us even better equipped to react at pace and manage the full lifecycle of ideas, from creation to protection and enforcement.” he continued.

Lewis Silkin has experienced growth in recent years through acquisitions such as Adslogans and Ablett & Stebbing.

This most recent acquisition aims to improve the firm's capacity to cater to clients with complex and diverse patent and trademark portfolios across multiple jurisdictions.
