Through her extensive publishing, policy engagement, international committee work and active participation in shaping India’s intellectual property discourse, Shilpi Saurav Sharan has established herself as an influential IP voice.

Her practice focuses on brand protection, trademarks, copyright, licensing, legal consultancy and IP strategy, advising both domestic and international clients on the protection, enforcement and commercialisation of IP rights.

Throughout her career, Sharan has provided strategic counsel on trademark and copyright prosecution matters, securing the registration and enforcement of IP rights for numerous high-value brands. 

She has developed and implemented comprehensive brand protection strategies across a range of industries, helping clients identify and mitigate legal and commercial risks while strengthening brand integrity, enforcement readiness and market positioning. 

Her experience also includes conducting trademark clearance and availability assessments for multinational brands, negotiating IP agreements and licensing arrangements, and advising on cross-border IP protection strategies.

Sharan has made a significant contribution to IP thought leadership and policy development. 

A prolific author and commentator, Sharan has written extensively on IP, technology and innovation. Her publications include books, book chapters and articles covering topics such as piracy and parallel imports, artificial intelligence and copyright, data protection, counterfeit medicines, comparative advertising, trademark law, licensing, FRAND litigation, digital piracy and IP policy. 

Sharan serves on the International Trademark Association’s Commercialisation of Brands Committee (2026–2028) and previously served on the Right of Publicity Committee (2023–2025). 

She is a member of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) International Trademarks, Designs and Merchandising Committee, the Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group (PTMG) and the International Bar Association (IBA) Human Rights Committee. She is a regular speaker and delegate at industry conferences and international IP forums.

Alongside her professional achievements, Sharan mentors junior lawyers and supports the development of future IP professionals.
